XDA forumer and co-founder of Bitcoin Internet Payment System Kris Henrikson shared how he dismantled the old MacBook and replaced all the parts with the ones necessary to run Samsung DeX on it.

Samsung’s DeX software attempts to simulate a desktop computer experience through the Galaxy S8 and Note 8. The device connects to a monitor through its special dock and acts like a regular desktop computer. Users may also connect peripherals like a mouse and keyboard.

According to Henrikson’s XDA post under the handle “kreal,” the MacBook was a 2008 model. All he needed from it was the screen, keyboard and trackpad, so everything else had to go. After getting the mouse and trackpad to work with a USB connection, adding some new batteries, and installing a few other parts, his Samsung DeX laptop was complete. He even included a magnetic micro USB charger cable to mimic an actual Apple charger.

He uploaded a video on YouTube to show the converted MacBook in full working order.

ASUS attempted something similar a few years back with their PadPhone.

The ASUS smartphone docks with a keyboard and screen assembly which transforms the device into a hybrid laptop of sorts. JB
