The market for video games in the Philippines is expanding, according to video gaming colossus Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE).
“The Philippine market, for us, is growing. It’s really good,” said SIE Assistant Manager for Public Relations Ian Purnomo during the first-ever Playstation “Play Everything” Roadshow.
Purnomo said that the unique qualities of Filipino gamers lend an attractive quality sought after by video game developers.
“The benefit of the Philippines is that you guys are English-speaking. Anything that we market, you guys understand it,” he said.
With the language barrier done away with, additional costs such as localizing video games for a foreign market is significantly reduced.
Purnomo added that Filipino gamers are not restricted to a single niche or genre, but embrace a diverse array of game titles.
“Filipinos are exposed to so many influences, Japanese anime, Japanese manga, Western titles, Western movies mainly, so we see this great potential,” Purnomo said.
He also added that this hunger for a wide array of titles is perfectly in line with PlayStation’s “Play Everything” slogan.
PlayStation’s “Play Everything” Roadshow is located at the 4th floor of the SM Annex in SM North Edsa from October 3 to 8.
Entrance to the venue is free of charge and visitors are encouraged to play any of the games featured in the booths. /je
