LOOK: Nintendo fans bid farewell to ‘Miiverse’ with touching tributes

Nintendo has certainly been a pioneer in the video game industry when it comes to introducing unique and innovative ways to connect to its millions of fans.

In a bid to establish its own game-related social media service for the Wii U and 3DS systems, the Japan-based game developer introduced the “Miiverse” community in 2012, wherein users can engage each other and even share drawings of their favorite characters.

But as all good things must come to an end at some point, Nintendo announced that the fan service site will be permanently closed on Nov. 7.

As a form of a final goodbye for the once revered channel, Nintendo set up the “Everybody’s Message Community” where users can celebrate and reminisce about soon-to-be extinct online community.

“Share your memories and thoughts about Miiverse and its users by posting hand-drawn messages,” the community description reads. “Selected posts from this community may be used to create a giant collage that will be shared at a later date.”

As anticipated, nostalgic fans flooded the channel with beautiful drawings, heartfelt messages and even funny farewells.

Aside from the “Miiverse” community, the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel service will be discontinued by January 2019. /ra
