Mark Zuckerberg made an announcement via Facebook that the company will be upgrading its artificial intelligence tools to look for suicide posts on their social media platform.
The CEO also pointed out how despite fears, AI has been adapted to help save people’s lives.
According to Zuckerberg, the social media giant’s new AI tools will use pattern recognition to look for tell-tale signs on posts and comments.
Flagged items will be quickly reported to teams who would be on stand by round-the-clock. They would then provide support for individuals around the world within minutes.
Zuckerberg said the AI system would grow overtime and eventually learn to understand subtle nuances in language. This would allow it to identify other social issues other than suicide, such as bullying and hate.
Zuckerberg continues to champion the usefulness of AI despite receiving sharp criticism from Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who believes people should be cautious about developing artificial intelligence. JB
