After so many calls from netizens for  Twitter to ban US President Donald Trump, the social media site stood its ground and said they are keeping his account.

In a blog post from the site posted on Friday about world leaders, it maintained its stance that they are important because of how they shape the conversation in society. It did not specify Trump in the blog.

“Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial [t]weets would hide important information people should be able to see and debate,” the blog post read, citing the reason why it does not remove their accounts.

“It would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions,” it further read.

It added that Twitter reviews tweets from leaders “within the political context that defines them,” while they enforce the site’s rules accordingly.

“No one person’s account drives Twitter’s growth, or influences these decisions,” the post stressed, adding that Twitter believes it is a site that sees and freely discusses matters.

Upon posting the blog, netizens shared their disappointment with the social media site. @KrishG said that Trump should use the official @POTUS account when airing his concerns, and that Twitter should remove his personal account.

One netizen said that Twitter’s reason was unacceptable. “It has nothing to do with freedom of speech and everything to with revenue. Shame on you,” @Lerxt777 expressed.

@KINGCHRXS chose to hit Twitter founder Jack Dorsey by saying that he was “complicit” in this photo.

And this netizen best expressed his sentiment through a GIF photo, highlighting the use of “important information” in the post.

And this netizen corrected that Trump was not a “leader” but rather an “entertainer, at best, and not a very good one.”

The US president is known to be vocal on the social media site, even before he was elected to his post. /ra
