Update 11.2.2 for iOS has been released to address the Spectre security vulnerability in iPhones and iPads.
Researchers recently discovered vulnerabilities in Intel, AMD and ARM processors which could give attackers access to sensitive information.
They call the attack exploiting this vulnerability as Spectre. The 11.2.2 iOS update for iPads and iPhones has been designed to address Spectre.
Another attack technique called Meltdown specifically targets an Intel processor vulnerability. Apple also released an update for the macOS to defend against this attack, in the 10.13.2 High Sierra update.
Meanwhile, Google and Microsoft have also released similar updates for their products. Users are urged to download the updates as soon as possible. JB
