After removing the GIPHY app in Stories due to a racist GIF image, Instagram has now brought back the feature.
The social media app has reenabled the feature after GIPHY confirmed it had reviewed their GIF catalog four times. It said it would strictly inspect any new image that might be added, TechCrunch reported today.
A spokesperson for Instagram said: “We’ve been in close contact with GIPHY throughout this process and we’re confident that they have put measures in place to ensure that Instagram users have a good experience.”
GIPHY apologized to users affected by the offensive image. The app told TechCrunch: “GIPHY condone or support this kind of content . . . We have also finished a full investigation into our content moderations systems and processes and have made specific changes to our process to ensure something like this does not happen again.”
Meanwhile, Snapchat, who first pulled out GIFs after the racial slur was identified, has not given a comment whether or not it plans to return the images too. Katrina Hallare /ra
