To strengthen copyright when it comes to videos, YouTube announced that it has created a tool notifying users if their videos have been uploaded on another channel.

The video-sharing site announced the new “Copyright Match” tool, designed to find matches of similar videos within the platform. YouTube revealed the new tool in a blog post yesterday, July 11.

The tool works when users first upload their video on the site. The Copyright Match tool will then scan other videos to check for duplicity.

If it does have a match, the video will appear in the “matches” tab of the tool, then users will decide whether to do nothing, contact the other creator or make a request to YouTube to delete the copy.

YouTube said that it took them nearly a year for testing the tool with creators “to make it safe and effective for the whole community.” The feature will roll out starting next week for creators who have more than 100,ooo subscribers.

“As this is a powerful feature, we will monitor usage closely and will continue to expand over the coming months with the long-term goal of making it available to every creator in the YouTube Partner program,” the post stated. JB
