The combined commercial power of Ancient Greek action adventure “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey”, fighting game “SoulCalibur”, soccer sim “Football Manager 2019” and in-development shooter “World War 3” — plus a discounted “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” in sixth — conspired to push enormous 2017 success “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” outside of the Steam chart top five.
Even if “SoulCalibur VI”, a classic franchise making its return after over 20 years on the market, were not present twice thanks to both standard and deluxe editions making it into the top five, a 34 percent-off sale on September hit “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” (sixth place) ensures the fate of “PUBG”.
“Football Manager 2019” is involved on the strength of pre-orders alone (those that pre-purchase it get immediate access to a Beta edition as well as lite version “FM19 Touch”) ahead of a Nov. 2 debut.
Elsewhere, modern retro shooter “Project Warlock” scales the GOG chart to end up in second, while extremely well-received murder mystery “Return of the Obra Dinn” looks even further back in home computing history for its distinctive look.
On Itch.io, low-budget horrors remain order of the day, with new release “Midnight Scenes: Ep.2” the favorite and its year-old predecessor not too far behind.
