A 33-year-old man from Dublin, Ireland who complained of severe lower back pain injected his own semen into his right arm to treat the pain, as per a case published in the January 2019 volume of the Irish Medical Journal.

The case is titled “‘Semenly’ Harmless Back Pain: An Unusual Presentation of a Subcutaneous Abscess” and was led by Dr. Lisa Dunne of Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Dublin. The paper states that as per research, it is the first such case found in medical literature.

The patient was treated in the hospital after it was found that he had been injecting himself with his own fluids every month for 1.5 years with a hypodermic needle bought online. The researchers found that he did not take any medical advice in pursuing the “cure.”

Besides pus which collected in his arm, his failed attempts at injecting himself caused the semen to leak into his soft tissues, leading to swelling and edema.

To treat the abscess, doctors put him on an intravenous antimicrobial drip. Before they could drain the swelling, however, the man discharged himself from the hospital.

If there is anything to learn from it, the paper cites that it “demonstrates the risks involved with medical experimentation prior to extensive clinical research.” And well, do not inject yourself with semen. JB
