Video of ‘ukulele boy’ from Cebu goes viral on social media

MANILA, Philippines. — A video of a young boy from Cebu skillfully playing his ukulele went viral on social media on Wednesday, March 6.

In the video, the boy is seen performing his ukulele cover of “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and “Buwan” by Juan Karlos.

“Galing ng batang to! He’s from Cebu…Sabi niya sakin tumutugtog siya para makapagaral at magkaron ng makakain family niya,” wrote TJ Clemente, the netizen who posted the video on facebook.

(This kid is great! He’s from Cebu… He told me he plays the ukulele to raise money for his school tuition and help his family)

Clemente said they were on their way to the Mactan Airport when the boy approached as soon as they stepped-out of the taxi.

“We decided to eat bago pumunta ng airport. Then pag baba namin ng taxi lumapit siya,” narrates Clemente. Then he said the boy just started playing his ukulele.

(We decided to first eat before going to the airport. Then as we got out of the taxi, he approach us.)

In his initial post, Clemente said he was not able to get the boy’s contact number or his address. However, after a few days he was finally able to identify the boy’s name and where he lives.

“His name is Jonlie Cabradilla. He is 11 years old. He lives in Barangay Lawaaan 2, Talisay City,” wrote Clemente.

“Saludo ako sa’yo! Sana one day ma-discover siya para makapag aral siya at para mas makapag provide sa family niya,” Clemente wrote in his post.

(I salute you! I hope one day he will get discovered (as an artist) and will be able to study and provide for his family.)

Clemente is not the only one who was amazed by the boy’s musical talent as the social media post has garnered 8.3K likes and 21K shares online as of this posting.  /muf
