Wunder Carpool to end PH operations on June 28

MANILA, Philippines – Carpooling app Wunder Carpool announced on Monday that it is set to exit the carpooling industry in the Philippines by the end of the month.

In an advisory, the company said the decision was not taken lightly.

“We gave it a lot of thought and came to the conclusion that, in order to maximize our efforts in accelerating our vision of a better mobility ecosystem worldwide, stopping our operations in Manila on the 28th of June would be the most appropriate course of action,” Wunder Carpool said.

“This means that our carpooling platform and our support channels will be available until that date, after which the Wunder Carpool app will no longer be accessible,” it added.

The application will also be removed from the App Store in the following days, the company said.

The operations, however, will “continue as normal” until the said date; hence, it urged its customers to use their Wunder Wallet balance to pay for their rides and to “withdraw” their balances.

“Having said that, please make sure to withdraw all your cashable balance by the 28th of June in order to ensure that you get your money in due time,” it said.

Wunder Carpool, developed by WunderCar Mobility Solutions GmbH, launched its operations in February 2016. It is a “nonprofit” ride-sharing app which allows Metro Manila and Cebu drivers to “offer up empty seats in their cars on the way to the office.”

However, in 2017, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) ordered Wunder Carpool to cease operations after failing to coordinate with the agency for its accreditation as a transport network company (TNC). (Editor: Eden Estopace)
