A woman reeled in a fish that appears to have two mouths while fishing in Lake Champlain in Plattsburgh, New York.
Debbie Geddes was fishing with her husband when she made the odd catch, as per NBC 5 News yesterday, Aug. 21.
“When this particular fish bit, it felt like I had a nice fish on,” she told Fox News yesterday. “I actually commented, ‘I hope it’s as big as it feels!’ When we got it in the boat I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! Two mouths! And yet this fish was healthy and thriving!”
Having no intention of keeping the fish, Geddes quickly took some photos of it before releasing it back into the water.
That picture was then uploaded to Facebook by her co-worker, Adam Facteau, via the Knotty Boys Fishing Facebook page on Aug. 19.
The photo quickly went viral, with netizens giving their theories on how the fish had gained a second mouth.
“I just can’t believe all the attention this has received,” Geddes added. “The public’s responses/theories are quite interesting, to say the least. I personally believe it was caused by a previous injury, most likely from another angler.”
Most of the netizens agreed with Geddes’ theory of a previous injury while others believe it was caused by the amount of pollution in the lake. For one, Facteau did not agree with Geddes’ injury theory and leans more toward pollution as the cause of the abnormality.
“Sure, that’s possible (the injury). Maybe,” he said in the report. “However, Lake Champlain is also known for being a sewage dumping ground from Canada and (Vermont). Plus, many of these fish are stocked.”
Regardless of what had caused the fish’s unique appearance, Factaeu calls the odd animal a “catch of a lifetime.” Ryan Arcadio/JB
