App allows charity to go viral

Today, charity still begins at home but it can be spread through the information superhighway.

OksPinoy, a mobile app developer, has come up with iCare, a homegrown Android application, with support from Smart Communications Inc.

iCare allows a user, with a few clicks on a mobile device, to tap into his or her mobile credits—or load—to make a donation to a favored charity from anywhere in the world.

iCare does not require a credit card to make a donation, according to Patricia Paguia of OksPinoy.

Downloadable for free from the Android Market, it is one of the homegrown apps being showcased at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It will be made available soon via the Smart App Store.

“Whenever there’s a calamity or a natural disaster, people from anywhere in the world can download the iCare application and donate to organizations such as the Philippine Red Cross,” said Paguia.
