DICT vows continued connectivity

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has pledged continued connectivity among government agencies, hospitals and public spaces amid quarantine measures meant to contain the spread of the new coronavirus disease.

For hospitals, the DICT said it has installed free Wi-Fi in over 700 public hospitals, rural health units and government offices across the country.

The DICT has over 3,000 free Wi-Fi spots in public areas around the country.

Through a partnership with the United Nations Development Program, it hopes to increase this to about 12,000 sites by the end of the year.

The DICT said emails and websites with gov.ph domain hosted under its GovMail Service and the Government Web Hosting Service were still operational.

It said its Disaster Risk Reduction Management Division, under the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Resilient Government Emergency Communications, likewise remained active. —MIGUEL R. CAMUS
