LG OLED TVs are ‘Eye Comfort Display Certified’ for your family

MANILA, Philippines – As people are forced to stay home for longer periods of time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people have been glued to their devices and screens more and more. While bingeing your favorite shows and movies on Netflix seems like a winning proposition for most, one has to take into account the increased risk of eye strain. With the movement of social distancing together with stay at home orders, the use of digital devices and screen time has significantly increased. This proves to be quite a predicament as while we’re safe from the COVID-19 virus outside, the risk for eye strain or other ocular complications has risen.

The reason for this is too much exposure to blue light, which can damage light-sensitive cells in the retina. Prolonged exposure, especially at night, can contribute to eye health issues and potential sleep disorders. One of the best ways to avoid ocular issues during this time is to designate breaks in screen time during the day and at least two hours before sleeping at night. Another option to mitigate risk is to use technological innovations that are engineered to lessen the risk of eye fatigue, such as LG’s OLED TVs, which is Eye Comfort Display Certified.

LG’s industry leading OLED TV technology received in 2019 an Eye Comfort Display certification from TÜV Rheinland, a global leader in independent inspection services, for its large-sized OLED TV panels. The certification has three key qualifications for eye-comfort standards, including such “common concerns” as: blue light content, flicker, and high-quality imaging. Most LED LCD TVs in the market today emit as much as 64% blue light which is very dangerous. The inspection service found that light produced by LG Display’s 65-inch OLED panels consists of 34% blue light, which is significantly lower than the 50% threshold. While the highest spec 65-inch LCD panels produce 64% blue light, LG’s OLED panels emit only half that amount. These findings are important because anything above 50% is very dangerous to eyes, especially with prolonged exposure.
