A Japanese man looking for his parents’ home on Google Earth made an unexpected find: his late father awaiting his mother’s return.
Twitter user @TeacherUfo shared last Jan. 4 satellite images of his dad standing outside their house as his mother walked down the street holding an umbrella.
“I saw my father who has passed away seven years ago,” he noted. “My father must have been waiting for my mother to return home.”
“My father was a quiet but kind man, I hope that Google Earth doesn’t update the photo for this place,” he added.
The tweet inspired others to see if they could find their loved ones through Google Earth. A certain @teruka0125 found their late grandmother working in a field.
Twitter user @yosio61 said they were in tears seeing their late grandmother “walking lonely” without her husband, who died years before she did.
One @shiumeko was touched to see their late dog at home.
Google Earth is a computer program that provides a 3D representation of Earth based on satellite images. The photos update every one to three years as per Tech Junkie. However, Google does not update the whole map all at once, so users can find some places have images older than three years—and, by chance, see loved ones frozen in time. /ra
