After being canceled due to COVID-19 last year, the world’s biggest gaming event, E3, will be pushing through this year completely online.
Everyone will be able to attend E3 totally free of charge, organizer Electronic Software Association (ESA) announced as per gaming website Polygon yesterday, April 6.
E3 2021 will be held from June 12 to 15. This “reimagined, all-virtual” event will be featuring gaming giants Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games and Koch Media.
“We are evolving this year’s E3 into a more inclusive event, but will still look to excite the fans with major reveals and insider opportunities that make this event the indispensable center stage for video games,” Stanley Pierre-Louis, president and CEO of the ESA, was quoted as saying.
E3, which was previously often held in Los Angeles, was canceled last year over COVID-19 concerns. The ESA noted, however, that they are planning an in-person E3 2022, the report said.
This annual gaming conference “is the leading video game event that connects innovative hardware and software with fans and brings new players into the video game ecosystem,” the ESA explained on its website.
Sony, the company behind the PlayStation consoles and games, will, meanwhile, be absent in E3 2021. Last year, prior to the cancellation of E3 2020, Sony announced that they would not be attending, as pointed out by IGN yesterday. Ian Biong /ra
