PH’s biggest 5G Hackathon kicks off with enablement workshops
As Globe Telecom and DLSU’s Animo Labs kick off its 5G Hackathon’s enablement workshops on May 21, over 600 students, professors, startups, and tech professionals are in for a totally immersive and enriching learning experience.

The 7-day workshop will happen on Globe Prepaid’s Virtual Hangouts, where leaders from various industries will discuss a wide range of topics that push 5G technology and innovations for reinvented experiences and real-world applications. Guest speakers include Cascadeo President & Founder Jared B. Reimer (A Case Study on a Startup that Made It Big), Globe’s Platform and Solution Architecture Director Mikey Velasco (Reinventing the World through 5G), Enterprise Business Consultant William Arnaiz (Design Thinking Primer), and 917V Head of Marketing Communications & Program Management, Natasha Bautista (Basics of Pitching), and DLSU Professor Alexander Co Abad (Social Impact and Innovation), and Animo Labs Program Manager Nestor Nisperos (Business Modelling for Startups).
Representatives from Google Cloud, Microsoft, Huawei, MDI Novare, Amazon Web Services, Tech Mahindra, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Intel, and Alibaba will also be present to share their technical know-how.

There are three main areas in which Globe encourages participants to contribute to nation-building using technology: 5G for society specifically education, healthcare, and livelihood; 5G for industries such as retail, manufacturing, logistics, and e-commerce; and 5G for Smart Cities, mainly on disaster risk management, sustainability, asset and resource management, and transportation.
Ten teams with the best ideas will be selected to present and demonstrate their prototype in the 2-week hackathon following the workshops and pitch competition. The top three winners receive a cash pool worth half a million pesos, get a chance to turn their ideas into a business venture under 917Ventures, the corporate venture builder arm of Globe, and have the opportunity to work directly with Globe’s 5G Acceleration Lab.
5G is the latest breakthrough in wireless technology and is 10 to 100 times faster than the current 4G network. It is also a universal platform that makes other innovations possible such as self-driving cars, remote surgeries, drone deliveries, automated warehouses, smart cities, among others. Globe continuously expands its reach and uses the latest technologies to improve the network experience of its customers in order to deliver a #FirstWorldNetwork to all Filipinos.
