In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman wrote that the company is testing a new version of its high-end desktop.
It has a 24-core CPU, 76-core GPU, and 192GB memory. Gurman says Apple will let customers choose between two chipsets.
He called the new Mac Pro chips the “M2 Ultra” and “M2 Extreme.” The former will have 24 CPU cores and 76 graphics cores.
Meanwhile, the Extreme Mac Pro chip will have 48 CPU cores and 152 graphics cores. In contrast, the current M2 chip has eight CPU cores and ten GPU cores.
The unannounced M2 Max would likely have 12 CPU and 38 GPU cores. As a result, the M2 Ultra and Extreme could be two and four times more powerful than the Max, respectively.
Gurman also said that Apple would soon announce updated versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini.
The tech insider said the latest laptops would feature the new M2 Pro and Max chips. On the other hand, the Mac mini will use the M2 silicon found in the 2022 MacBook Air.
Gurman noted that the company has internally tested a Mac mini variant with an M2 Pro. However, he did not mention if Apple would release that version.
