Microsoft Uses ChatGPT AI To Control Robots

07:25 AM March 08, 2023

Have you ever wanted to make robots? Microsoft made that easier by enabling ChatGPT AI to write code for such machines.

More importantly, it would allow people with no coding or programming experience to create robots!

Users would command ChatGPT AI to make robots do specific tasks. Even better, it would ask people to confirm instructions if they seem ambiguous or unclear.

It can be difficult to understand the significance of ChatGPT AI robotics without some understanding of how to program robots.

FEATURED STORIES

That is why I will briefly explain that concept by breaking down its three main issues. First, writing code for robots takes a long time.

You would need to enter a long set of instructions your robot would follow to perform specific tasks, otherwise known as code.

It is a painstaking process that requires the utmost attention to detail. Second, programming robots is expensive because it requires highly-skilled experts.

Third, ensuring your robot does what you want requires numerous repetitive tests. If something fails, you will need to review your code.

Debugging tools facilitate the process by automatically detecting errors. However, an error-free program doesn’t always mean it will work as intended.

How does ChatGPT AI make it easier?

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence program that produces convincingly-manmade text within seconds. Moreover, it understands simple sentence commands.

For example, tell it to “write a poem about Jackie Chan,” and it would produce rhymed verses about the Hollywood icon.

ChatGPT is so advanced that it can write academic journals, scientific papers, and computer code.

Microsoft invested heavily in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT AI, and enabled the tool to write robotics code for users.

Describe what you want your robot to do, and it will generate code within minutes. Moreover, it will ask you questions to clarify your instructions.

For example, a Microsoft article describes how the company’s researchers asked a flying drone to inspect shelves.

It asked the user how it should perform that task and figured out it must move in a zig-zag pattern. Moreover, the ChatGPT AI robot learned how to take a selfie!

Users tell the AI tool what to do, and then it asks for more information about their instructions. The best part is that it doesn’t require someone to have coding skills.

Conclusion

Microsoft found a way to make robotics easier with ChatGPT AI. However, the tech firm said the program is still in its research and testing stage.
