We all rely on the internet for information, but we must get it from trustworthy sources. Fortunately, the new Google Search Features make it easier than ever.
The search engine adds the “About this result,” “About this author,” and “About this page” sections. These provide more details to facilitate online searches.
Google will also add the “Perspectives” carousel that shows websites with different points of view regarding your search query.
What are the new Google Search features?
Let us start with the new Google Search features already active. The About this result option shows the origin of a selected online result.
It provides a short description of the website’s owner and services. Also, the new feature explains why Google suggested it on your search results page.
You may access it by searching for anything on Google. Then, choose a result and click or tap the three dots beside it to reveal the About this result window.
As the name suggests, the About this author tells you about the writer of an article. Try searching for me on Google and clicking on the three dots beside the search result!
The About this page gives you more information about the topic and source of a specific page. For example, here’s what appears when you try it with Inquirer:
“The Philippine Daily Inquirer, or simply the Inquirer, is an English-language newspaper in the Philippines. Founded in 1985, it is often regarded as the Philippines’ newspaper of record.”

Google acknowledges insufficient information for some queries, or results change too quickly. Consequently, it may not have high confidence in the overall quality of the results.
That is why it launched information gaps for search engine results pages. Note that information gaps do not always mean a lack of quality data.
The Perspectives carousel is one of the upcoming Google Search features. It will appear below the Top Stories section, showing experts and journalists relevant to your search.
Yesterday’s Google blog used the recent Oscars as an example. The Perspectives carousel showed five results that offer positive and negative views of the event.
Unlike the other features, it hasn’t launched yet. Soon, Google says it will become available on desktop and mobile for US users.
Conclusion
The new Google Search results help people research topics online by providing more details from the search engine results page.
Coincidentally, these features came out ahead of International Fact-Checking Day on April 2. Google also partnered with various nonprofits to promote information literacy.
