OpenAI announced several minor upgrades to ChatGPT, such as prompt examples and suggested replies. The company calls them “small updates,” but they could significantly improve user experience. OpenAI will launch these next week, shortly after adding new features last month.
The artificial intelligence race is heating up, and OpenAI knows this trend. Google, Microsoft, and other tech companies are developing similar tools. Consequently, it has been putting more features into its flagship product to maintain its market dominance. Fortunately, this competition makes AI more convenient and useful for everyone worldwide.
This article will discuss the latest ChatGPT upgrades, like setting GPT-4 as your default large language model. Later, I will cover the other updates to this AI program to show how much it has improved in a few months.
What are the latest ChatGPT upgrades?
The OpenAI help page announced its latest ChatGPT upgrades on August 3, 2023. Later, the company and its Developer Relations leader Logan Kilpatrick posted these upcoming improvements on X:
- Prompt examples: New chats will show prompt examples so first-time and experienced users can start immediately.
- Suggested replies: This AI program will suggest relevant ways to continue your conversation. In other words, it will guide beginners in improving their ChatGPT results.
- GPT-4 by default: Previously, ChatGPT Plus users had to select GPT-4 whenever they opened the AI tool. Next week, it will open GPT-4 as the default LLM if you have a ChatGPT Plus subscription.
- Upload multiple files: You may analyze data and generate insights for several files if you have the Code Interpreter for Plus users.
Stay logged in: You’ll no longer be logged out every 2 weeks! The program will stop logging you out every two weeks. Also, ChatGPT will show a “more welcoming page” when you need to sign in. Previously, it showed a blank page asking you to log in with the green button below. - Keyboard shortcuts: ChatGPT will offer keyboard shortcuts. For example, Windows users can press Ctrl + Shift + ; to copy the last code block. Alternatively, it’s ⌘ + Shift + ; for Apple users.

OpenAI says it will release these “small upgrades” next week. However, the artificial intelligence company hasn’t yet specified its launch date and time.
What were the other ChatGPT updates?
OpenAI has been improving its world-famous program for months. On May 12, 2023, it launched web browsing, enabling ChatGPT to refer to the Internet when executing commands.
Previously, ChatGPT could only access information before 2021. Thanks to this feature, the program can use recent data if you have a ChatGPT Plus subscription.
Web browsing included plugins, tools that linked ChatGPT to third-party software for additional features. For example, the Klarna plugin helps you find the best deals for products and services.
As mentioned above, the Code Interpreter will have the ability to process multiple files. Its original function is to run code on ChatGPT. You may write them on the platform or execute code from an existing file.

On July 20, OpenAI enabled customized instructions so that ChatGPT Plus users don’t have to submit the same instructions to the chatbot repeatedly. For example, students can tell the bot to “Write answers under 1,000 words.”
That instruction could save time writing research papers with that requirement. Also, OpenAI explained the feature by saying, “Information from your use of custom instructions will also be used to improve model performance — like teaching the model how to adapt its responses to your instructions without overdoing it.”
On July 31, the company expanded access to the chatbot with its Android app. As a result, you can use ChatGPT on your computer, Android, and iOS devices.
Conclusion
The upcoming ChatGPT upgrades will let you stay logged in and control the program with keyboard shortcuts. OpenAI says it will launch them next week.
It hasn’t specified a release date and time at the time of writing. Meanwhile, other tech companies have also been rapidly expanding their AI projects.
OpenAI must ramp up its research and development to remain competitive. Fortunately, that means more AI improvements for everyone! Check the latest digital tips and trends at Inquirer Tech.
