Apple might put Google Gemini AI into iPhones
What do you think when “dynamic duo” comes to mind? Perhaps you’ll answer “peanut butter and jelly,” or “coffee and pandesal.” Recently, two tech companies might collaborate to become a powerhouse couple in artificial intelligence.
Tech insider Mark Gurman posted on Bloomberg that Apple is allegedly discussing with Google to integrate its Gemini AI into iPhones and other devices.

As a result, it could become one of the first monumental AI collaborations since Microsoft partnered with OpenAI.

Tom’s Guide reported Google focuses on integrating artificial intelligence into mobile devices. The plan includes Nano, a large language model that can fit into smartphones and offer features from its larger siblings.
Apple also published research into making it easier for LLMs to run on mobile devices. Moreover, its MLX framework lets you run a wide range of open-source models on macOS.
These developments might enable developers to make Google AI apps for future iPhones. More importantly, Gurman says Apple and Google’s collaboration could help Gemini gain billions of potential users.
Apple insider website 9to5mac cited a paywalled Statista report regarding the iPhone company’s AI acquisitions.
It says Apple purchased 23 AI startups by 2023, the highest number among tech firms. This development implies the company wants to compete in the AI space.
Bloomberg states Tim Cook’s company is preparing new features for iOS 18, the upcoming version of the iPhone operating system.
Those improvements will focus on features on its devices instead of those provided by cloud servers. Consequently, Apple might want Google to deliver generative AI functions, like creating images and writing essays based on text prompts.
Apple, Google, and OpenAI representatives haven’t commented on this development at the time of writing.
