An inexpensive social networking partner

The X2-01 allows you to enjoy the perks of having a serious business phone where you may send and receive e-mail, chat or even check and update your Facebook, Twitter or Yahoo! Messenger accounts.

IF YOU’RE a student or someone living on a tight budget, Nokia’s X2-01 may prove to be heaven sent.

At a relatively low price of about P4,000, the X2-01 allows you to enjoy the perks of having a serious business phone where you may send and receive e-mail, chat or even check and update your Facebook, Twitter or Yahoo! Messenger accounts.

Communication is made much more convenient as the X2-01 is equipped with a full qwerty keypad, a customizable messaging key to open e-mail, text messages or instant messages.

More importantly, it boasts of a wide (320 x 240 pixel QVGA), 2.4-inch screen.

Perfect

When social networks come to mind, people who love typing in status updates and social feeds will find the X2-01 a perfect companion.

Instant messaging has long been a problem for mobile phones with conventional alphanumeric keypads. But the kinks have all been creased as the X2-01 offers a complete selection of characters, numbers, letters and symbols.

Replying to e-mail or creating one, chatting or updating your social networks using the X2-01 is much faster, enabling users to dispense with the use of shortcuts or shorthand.

This works the same way for text messages, which is made more fun as you can now keep track of text messaging through the X2-01’s conversational messaging, which “groups” your sent and received messages by contact.

Caveats
But of course there are caveats. Apart from the fact that it has no Wi-Fi, the X2-01 uses GPRS and EDGE (2.5G and 2.75G, respectively), a connectivity that is a bit slower than the 3G used by premium mobile devices.

Also, the X2-01 runs on a much simpler Series 40 (S40).

Fortunately, these weak points did not make the device less enticing: It’s luxurious appearance makes it classier than most phone models in its price range.
