Optimus bots wowed the crowd during Tesla’s “We, Robot” event after CEO Elon Musk unveiled his Robovan prototype.
They walked out alongside the self-driving vehicle and performed a dance number. Then, they went to their booths to prepare and serve drinks for guests.
However, some attendees of the October 10 event argue that the robots have human assistance, suggesting they’re not fully autonomous.
‘Optimus bots will walk among us,’ Musk claims
TechCrunch reporters Maxwell Zeff and Rebecca Belian shared details regarding the Optimus bots at the Tesla event.
They said the robots walked on stage after the Robovan reveal. Then, Musk claimed, “The Optimus will walk amongst you.”
“You’ll be able to walk right up to them, and they will serve drinks.” Next, he claimed the robots can “do anything,” such as walking your dog and taking care of your kids.

The tech billionaire said the Optimus humanoid robot will cost $20,000 to $30,000 “long term.”
“I think this will be the biggest product ever of any kind,” he added.
The clip in this article shows people interacting with Optimus bots at tables and in crowds. However, they were doing mundane tasks like waving at people.
One was holding a cup of ice, and others were handing small gift bags and playing rock, paper, scissors with guests.
Nevertheless, Musk said his robots will usher in “a future where there is no poverty.”

Gizmodo reports some in attendance weren’t convinced of the Optimus’ potential, such as tech evangelist Robert Scoble.
He posted on X that the Optimus bots have human assistance, meaning they’re not fully autonomous.
Scoble tested his claim by asking, “Hey Optimus, how much of you is AI?”
“I can’t disclose just how much. That’s something you’ll have to find out later,” the robot allegedly replied.
“But some or none?,” Scoble asked.
“I would say, it might be some. I’m not going to confirm, but it might be some,” the robot supposedly answered.
