DOST launches Program PROPEL to scale startup innovations

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – On December 4, 2024, the Department of Science and Technology launched Program PROPEL to scale Philippine innovations worldwide.

The DOST conducted the program at the Maynila Ballroom of The Manila Hotel in Manila City.

It drew key stakeholders from government, industry, the academe, and the science and technology community.

Program PROPEL will support Filipino innovators from startup to the scaling-up phase. Also, it will provide mentorship, funding, regulatory assistance, and global commercialization opportunities. 

PROPEL will foster a sustainable ecosystem for entrepreneurship and economic growth. Moreover, it will open international markets to local innovations.

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. stated during an interview:

“This program will provide Filipino startups and science and technology enterprises with access to DOST’s comprehensive suite of services, facilities, and programs…

“…helping them bring their innovations to market and scale their businesses.”

“We will fast-track intellectual property processes, ensuring that innovators can protect their inventions and bring them to market quickly and confidently,” he added.

Assistant Secretary for Technology Transfer, Communications, and Commercialization Napoleon K. Juanillo, Jr., stated in the official DOST website: 

“Through Program PROPEL, we aim to transform research into impact, driving Filipino innovations to create real-world solutions and economic opportunities.”

The Philippine News Agency says PROPEL is open to scientists and early- to mid-stage S&T innovators.
