Filipino photographers earn honors at Huawei XMAGE Awards 2024
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino photography talents shined bright at the Huawei XMAGE Awards 2024 Ceremony & Annual Exhibition on November 27.
The event occurred at the Shenzhen Sea World Culture and Art Center, where photography enthusiasts and professionals came together to witness flashes of brilliance worldwide.
The CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group Kevin Ho told the contestants:

Justin Mendoza: Photographer of the Year
Filipino account manager Justin Mendoza became one of the three Grand Winners for his photo submission titled, “Pick a Beak.”
It garnered astounding praise from international judges. Also, National Geographic Photographer and Emmy-Nominated Director Keith Ladzinki stated:

“This photograph embodies both humor and great sense of scale, allowing us to consider how big the bird is and whether or not it’s been caught by the fisherman’s pole.”
“Its power lies within the serendipity of the moment, a well-considered composition, and unique low perspective,” he added.
The other Grand Winners were Chinese engineer Chen Yong and Polish office worker Kinga Choińska.
Their submissions were titled, “Catching a Cloud” and “Sisters,” respectively. Each Grand Winner received a $10,000 Huawei Creation Fund.
Ferdinand Bendana: Best of Mate Series Award
Multimedia Coordinator Ferdinand Bendana won the Huawei XMAGE’s Best of Mate Series Award for his “Eagle’s Eye.”
He captured the majesty of this avian predator using the Huawei Mate 50 Pro. Moreover, Ladzinki admired the photo’s detail:
“This photo allows the viewer to behold nature’s masterful art and design up close…”
“…down to the follicle, as we stare into both beak and yellow eye.”
Jamir Lyndon Lumbao: ‘Moments’ category winner
The next Filipino talent to snap up a Huawei XMAGE award was Jamir Lyndon Lumbao. His submission is titled, “Refresh,” which he took during the aftermath of a fire in Cavite.
Christopher G. Andres: ‘Moments’ category runner-up
Christopher G. Andres caught this penguin diving into the depths with a Huawei P60 Pro.
His submission, “Into the Blue,” earned him a runner-up spot in Huawei XMAGE’s “Moments” category.

John Paul C. Garbanzo: ‘Moments’ category runner-up
John Paul C. Garbanzo earned a runner-up spot in the Moments division for “Trust in the Toss.”
He captured this image of a cheerleader soaring through the air during rehearsals with a Huawei Nova 8.
Mary Grace Montives: ‘Faces’ category runner-up
Multimedia Specialist Mary Grace Montives earned a runner-up victory in the “Faces” category for “Contemporary Elegance.”
The photo depicted a woman in intricate attire, fusing modern sophistication and artistic flair. Montives also shot the image of a Huawei Pura 70 Pro.
The Chinese phone brand has organized several global photography initiatives to cultivate the mobile photography culture.
The 9th Vice President of the China Photographers Association Chen Xiaobo said, “Mobile Imaging is not just about documenting daily life…”
“…but should be integrated with deeper observations and more personal philosophical thoughts.”
“Each photograph becomes a part of your own intimate dialogue with the world.”
