
MANILA, Philippines – The Star Fox remake was officially announced in a Nintendo Direct on May 7, 2026 and scheduled for release on June 25, 2026.
Star Fox finally makes a comeback 29 years after the release of the original Star Fox 64 in 1997 for the Nintendo 64.
Protagonist Fox McCloud’s cameo in the recent Super Mario Galaxy Movie teased his return for the Nintendo Switch 2.

What’s new?
The classic 3D Rail Shooter will get a huge visual overhaul that matches the system for the Switch 2.
Characters also feature redesigns compared to their 64 versions. Additionally, the 2026 version will also have fully voiced-over dialogues.
Back in the Lylat system
Fans of the original 64 game will once again explore the Lylat system in the main story’s campaign.
The gameplay trailer features the planets from the original 64 with its new graphics and animation. Corneria, the starting map; Fichina: a snowy map;Solar, a lava map; Zoness: an ocean planet; Meteo: an asteroid field, and Sector Y: a nebula map.
Competitive play
Star Fox (2026) introduces a 4v4 battle mode that can be played online, and features various objectives depending on the chosen map.
The Switch 2 also brings Star Fox (2026) a new experience because of its mouse mode. In single player mode, the joy-con can be used as a mouse for steering and firing.
While in co-op mode, the joy-cons can be split wherein one player takes on the pilot and the other as the gunner.
The Star Fox legacy
This is the 9th title in the franchise since its first introduction in 1993. This is also the third remake or reimagined title from the 64 release.
The first remake was the Star Fox 64 3D for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011. Then, the next in 2016, Star Fox Zero, a reimagined version for the Wii U.
Pre-orders are now available and exclusive only to the Switch 2.
