The HONOR 600 5G brings back the simple  joys of photography

Photographers are a peculiar bunch. They see the world through many lenses. And in the modern day, that roughly translates to GAS — or gear acquisition syndrome. “Seeing through many lenses” is an excuse to have many cameras.

A new way to approach film simulations

Lately I’ve been using the HONOR 600 5G on rotation to take photos of street scenes. As a Fujifilm user enamored with film simulations, the HONOR 600 has a similar feel in output. One feature that blew me away was that the phone had the ability to extract a film recipe from a photo. They call this feature ‘Magic Color.’ As an experiment I uploaded some of my custom film simulations from my XT30ii and the HONOR 600 was able to approximate popular simulations like Reggie’s Portra and Kodachrome 64.

How does this instant color grading happen?

The engine behind this tech is HONOR’s AI Photos Agent and their AI Color Engine. The onboard AI acts as a photography prompter, intelligently recognizing environmental light sources to eliminate yellowish or reddish color casts in real-time. It’s not about settings anymore. It’s about bringing back the joy of photography. I simply have to show the phone a photo style, asking it to “copy this look” and I’m all good to go.

Here are some sample shots I took using my favorite street photography filter, classic negative which I based off another Fuji photo I took. Note that this top photo (Manitou crane in Berlin) is the base image reference that I took from a computer screen. The other photos below follow that same simulation (notice the reds).

Here’s another showcase of film recipe filters that come stock with the HONOR 600 including Rich Negative, Clear Negavite, Nostalgic Negative.

The HONOR 600 series comes with some fun AI image enhancement tools that allow you to apply themes to images including sketch and anime themes as seen below.

The sum of its parts

To truly understand how this device fits into my digital lifestyle, we need to look at the HONOR 600 as a sum of its parts: optical stability, physical endurance, and ecosystem bridging.

First, optical stability. Low-light photography typically demands longer exposure times, which traditionally forces you to deploy a tripod—a massive physical inconvenience when navigating a crowded night market. The HONOR 600 utilizes a 200MP main camera on a 1/1.4-inch sensor, but the real physical cheat code is the CIPA 6.0 OIS stabilization. Translating that engineering marvel into human consequences means you can walk through the unevenly lit, rain-slicked streets of Binondo at midnight and shoot handheld at 2x or 3x zoom without hand tremors ruining the sharpness. Furthermore, parallel processing cuts processing latency by up to 50%, meaning the shutter reacts exactly when your finger twitches.

Second, physical endurance. A camera is useless if it’s dead. Packing a 7,000mAh battery usually implies a bulky, brick-like form factor that digs uncomfortably into your palm. Yet, the HONOR 600 rejects that trade-off entirely. It maintains a slim 7.8mm cold-carved unibody weighing just 190g. You can feel the tactile grip of the matte metal frame and the subtle texture of the translucent composite fiber back. The device’s AI Battery Scheduling Engine acts as a constant background monitor, learning your specific usage patterns to optimize power allocation so efficiently that core functions operate without throttling even at 20% charge. But the Best in Slot utility here is the 27W wired reverse charging. When my secondary device inevitably hits the red zone during a long photowalk, the HONOR 600 transforms into a rapid power bank, completely mitigating battery anxiety.

Last, the HONOR 600 addresses cross-platform compatibility. The current friction meta in the tech world is the walled garden between Android and Apple. If you shoot on an Android device, migrating those files to a MacBook for final archiving usually involves clunky third-party apps or a Google Photos sync. HONOR’s Upgraded OneHop technology dismantles this barrier. It operates as a seamless companion to the Apple ecosystem. I can execute a one-tap instant share of my high-res photos directly to a Mac, and even have my notifications mirror directly onto an Apple Watch. It eliminates the redundant friction of managing a dual-OS workflow.

The device features a physical AI Button on its side frame. A long press surfaces a context-aware Screen Recognition tool or an integrated Booking Agent, turning the hardware switch into a fast-travel mechanic for your everyday digital tasks.

What’s the upgrade?

The HONOR 600 descends from the previous HONOR 400 series and at that time, it was known as “the AI camera” with a special integration of Google’s Veo 2 platform that brings photos to life. This time, it’s back once again, with some upgrades. The HONOR 600 series allows you to contextualize stills to video generation by uploading a start and end photo – or a combination of two still that you would like to integrate. From there, you can add prompts to help generate specific videos. In this example, it’s a photo transition of a pedicab transitioning into a plane I took at McKinley stadium. Veo 2.0 even added sound!

The videos generated are watermarked with the HONOR 600 text to show that these are AI generated for safety.

The HONOR 400 series was last year’s mid-range darling. It held court with its Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor and 6000 mAh battery capacity. This year, the HONOR 600 runs on the new season Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor with an Adreno 722 GPU integrated. Another key difference is the screen brightness at 8000 nits and an upgraded 7000mAh battery. It comes with an 80W wired HONOR SuperCharge cable and 27W reverse charging.

Which one is for you?

In terms of pricing, we are looking at a regular price of P28,999 for the 8GB + 256GB model with a preorder price of P25,999. If you’re bent on getting this phone, the preorder price puts the pricing a lot closer to 2025 pre-RAM supply chain rates. What surprised me is the HONOR 600 Pro because at P50,000 you essentially have stable pricing for a Snapdragon 8 Elite platform device with an Adreno 830 GPU. Note that these are two different categories for phones despite sounding the same.

Same same but different: the HONOR 600 (left) and Pro version (right) look very similar but have different market segments in mind.

The Pro version is a step and a half up from the Snapdragon 7s SoC. If you ask me, it boils down to budget in this economy and the base model for the HONOR 600 is already loaded with the best 2026 kit for a mid-range daily driver. It ticks all the boxes for battery life (7000mAh), fast charging (80W wired), 120Hz AMOLED, IP68 / IP69 / IP69K water and dust resistance, and a main 200MP front camera.

As I said at the beginning of this piece, AI and software are what determines the future of phones today. The HONOR 600 has a huge AI suite with Image to Video 2.0 powered by Google Veo, deepfake voice detection for security, Google Gemini integration, low light photography enhancer, powerful image eraser and collage creator, and more.

Curing gear acquisition syndrome isn’t about stopping the desire to take great photos; it’s about optimizing the tools you carry. For creators looking to lighten their everyday carry without losing the nuanced film aesthetics they grinded for, the HONOR 600 comfortably secures an S-Tier spot.
