Acer debuts Predator Atlas 8 gaming handheld

When Acer announced the Nitro Blaze handheld at IFA 2024, the world was expecting big competition to the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo’s Legion Go. Instead, the launch never really happened. With complexities with the tariff situation among other factors, the Blaze never made it to shelves in the Philippines.

At Computex 2026 in Taiwan, Acer has doubled down with its handheld offerings boasting the flagship Predator line. Say hello to the Predator Atlas 8. It’s a huge 8″ device with 120Hz refresh and Full HD (500 nits peak brightness). In a way it’s good that this launch happens now as it is now powered by Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme graphics, following a similar path to how the MSI Claw made use of the Intel Arc series.

The handheld itself feels comfortable to hold despite its massive size. Regarding the 8” screen, this is a mixed bag as there are gamers who do prefer larger screens. The ergonomics with the XBOX controller buttons, hall effect dual joysticks, shoulder triggers, and two customizable back buttons, feel great.

The highlight of this device is the Intel Arc G3 Extreme graphics chip, which is a huge contender to AMD’s handheld equivalents. Because this specification was just released, we still do not have real world gaming experiences despite having seen the latest Forza 6 run like smooth butter. We are anticipating a huge power draw, with customizable settings from 8-35W TDP.

The Predator Atlas 8 runs on Windows 11 Home, which means this still isn’t the stripped down version that companies like ASUS have announced, working together with XBOX to deliver a gaming-centric handheld. In fact, the Acer website still touts the Co-pilot+PC branding. This is not to say that this device makes for a bad desktop PC replacement – it actually does. With two USB-C ports at the top of the device, you can easily attach a wired mouse and keyboard or wireless receivers (or connect via Bluetooth).

Given that it is 2026, the RGB gamer aesthetic seems a bit old, but it doesn’t remove the fact that the Predator Atlas 8 has all eyes on it as the debut Arc G3 Extreme device for handhelds.
