New Toshiba device means business
Toshiba produced the first laptop in 1985. Since then, the company has undertaken a number of innovations, including the release of the first laptop to feature an internal hard drive.
To hold on to that distinction, Toshiba continues to improve the laptop, turning out faster, lighter and more powerful devices.
Recently, the company marked the debut of the Tecra R840—its thinnest device yet and touted to be the “ideal all-around mobile business laptop.”
Article continues after this advertisementWeighing only 2.15 kg and measuring 2.4 cm thick, the Tecra R840 is a lightweight high-performance 14-inch full featured laptop designed to withstand accidental bumps, falls and even flexing.
Coming in textured line patterned Graphite Black finish, the Tecra R840 boasts of a premium looking spill-resistant raised tile keyboard and large TouchPad.
“Our new business laptops provide professionals what they need and want, including the performance needed to handle demanding business tasks in lightweight and durable designs,” said Wong Wai Meng, senior manager of Product Marketing, Toshiba Singapore Pte Ltd. “We focused on delivering what our customers asked for by reducing weight and increasing battery life without sacrificing performance.”
Article continues after this advertisementThe Tecra R840 is equipped with the second generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors and high-speed 7200 RPM hard drives. Visual experience is further enhanced with the AMD Radeon discrete graphics with 1 GB of dedicated graphics—powerful enough to let you display up to four screens at once.
The Tecra R840 notebooks are built using a unique high stiffness resin reinforced casing together with chassis pillars embedded in the laptop’s interior, allowing the device to withstand flexing and other physical injuries.
The laptop underwent an extensive highly accelerated life test (HALT) by the independent German test institute TÜV Rheinland. During testing, the Tecra R840 was able to withstand drops from a height of 76 centimeters and sustain a load of 100 kilograms on its LCD lid. Its keyboard was able to resist a spill of up to 30 milliliters in volume without affecting the data stored in the device.
As a Toshiba business laptop, the Tecra R840 features EasyGuard technology—a set of security features, including multiple level passwords, fingerprint reader and an optional high-level data encryption.
It features a broad range of ports including high-speed USB 3.0 port, eSATA/USB Combo with Toshiba’s USB Sleep & Charge technology, DisplayPort or HDMI, Bluetooth 3.0+EDR, ExpressCard and Gigabit Ethernet.
Toshiba also packed in its new and unique “Panel Open-Power On” capability, enabling users to boot up the laptop simply by lifting up the display panel when it is shut down or in sleep or hibernate mode.
