Samsung TVs offer consumers ‘smarter life’

MANILA, Philippines—For technology innovator Samsung, the television has become the key appliance to tinker with, hoping to integrate features of the PC, Internet and 3D technology.

After all, the TV is the most user-friendly gadget (just a click of the remote and it operates) and a device well suited for a family—where the television is, you are sure to family members huddled together.

Samsung then decided to reinvent the TV yet again. It has turned its new line of LEDs into smart TVs. The tech giant virtually started a trend by fitting these appliances with smart chips, enabling the products to perform even more intelligent tasks.

Leading the pack of the new Samsung’s LED series 8000, 7000 and 6000 are all 3D TVs, and they also boast of a host of Internet features such as web connected TV apps/widgets, social network clients, web search function and full web browser functionality.

According to KC Park, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics Philippines, the new smart TVs are all part of the company’s campaign to enable consumers to lead a “smarter life.”

From now on, Samsung intends to make products that feature “smart design,” offer “smart experience,” and integrate “smart connection,” said Park.

“These are products with game-changing designs and packed with features like games that can be accessed across all devices. They’re also easy to connect with each other. These new features are all about creating new values for the consumers,” he explained.

The new Samsung smart TVs have the “All-Share” feature, which uses DLNA technology—wireless technology that enables devices to connect with each other. With this feature, a Samsung smartphone may become a remote control for the TV, while a Samsung Galaxy Tab may be turned into a web search box—the Tab’s content pushed wirelessly onto the television screen—for the TV.

The integration of the Internet, WiFi, and 3D technology provides an immersive experience for the TV viewer, according to Ariel Arias, Samsung’s AV business unit head.

Arias cited as an example a smart TV function, which may be accessed and utilized even while the user is watching TV.

There’s also the presence of a recommendation engine—an application that lists TV programs and videos based on the viewer’s choice.

Samsung’s new smart TVs also feature full Internet browsing experience as it can run HTML5—the new engine of the web that enables fast video streaming.

Also, the Social TV feature integrates all social feeds from the web. Viewers can access Samsung’s TV apps store (the first TV apps store) for access of more features online.

“With the Samsung smart TVs, watching TV is no longer a passive activity but an interactive activity,” said Arias.

The new LED TVs also sport super narrow bezels that provide larger viewing screens providing an almost infinite impression as images and scenes become part of the background wall.

With a 5mm brushed metal bezel, the LED D8000 has an improved quad stand and offers true-to-life 2D, 3D and FHD images with outstanding clarity. The D8000 series is the first to offer the micro-dimming technology, providing the richest, most lifelike pictures with deep blacks and pure whites.

The Samsung LED D7000 series features a stunningly thin 5mm black frame with a jewel-like transparent bezel.

It’s backlight scanning technology has been improved through Samsung’s new 3D proprietary frame interpolation algorithm, which enhances 3D picture quality and creates sharp 2D and 3D images, smoothing out frame transitions without blurring.

The LED D6600 series is the ideal 3D LED TV for consumers ready to embrace 3D entertainment without breaking the bank. Samsung’s unique double-rate frame transition technology also reduces the picture frame transition time by 50 percent to enhance the viewing quality of 3D content.

All the new TVs come with very light 3D glasses that communicate with the appliances via Bluetooth technology.
