MANILA, Philippines—Viber announced Thursday that it is now offering video calling with the release of Viber 5.0, the new version of the free messaging mobile application (app) for iOS and Android powered devices.
“Now that you can make video calls from your phone as well as on your PC and Mac, you can always talk in the way that’s most convenient for you, wherever you happen to be,” said Talmon Marco, Viber’s chief executive officer in a statement.
According to Marco, the new feature will enable Filipinos to “send the good vibes face-to-face with loved ones.”
Aside from the video calling feature, Viber introduced a new way for its users to share their contacts through QR code scanning.
Viber also released specific enhancements for each device: easier photo messaging for iOS users; new and improved design for Android users; fun backgrounds gallery for Desktop version 4.3; and an updated snap mode with stickers and notifications for Windows 8 v.32 devices.
Viber has over 400 million unique users and 608 million registered users in 193 countries. In the Philippines, Viber is the top free messaging mobile app in the country with 13 million registered users.
