A man wearing a policeman’s uniform earned the ire of netizens after he was seen on a video berating a motorcycle rider.
In a 40-second video shared by Top Gear Philippines on its Facebook page, the unidentified man was seen confronting a motorcycle rider and gesturing as if about to punch him. He later hit on the head the rider who was carrying a large box and plastic bags.
After the confrontation, the rider parked his motorcycle on one side of the street while the man in policeman’s uniform went back to his white AUV and followed him to resume their argument.
The video was first posted by netizen Hayley Catacutan on her Facebook account.
Quoting Catacutan, Top Gear said the plate number of the AUV was UEQ-399.
Angeline Reyes Ng, who later identified herself as the sister of the motorcycle rider, said her brother had been physically and verbally assaulted by the man in uniform.
In a post on Top Gear’s Facebook page, Ng said her brother, whose motorcycle hit the AUV, immediately apologized for the incident.
The man in uniform, however, did not accept the apology, said Ng, and instead hurled invectives at her brother and slapped him in the face.
The PNP said it was making efforts to determine the identity of the man involved in the viral video.
“As part of our procedure, we directed ACG (Anti-Cybercrime Group), HPG (Highway Patrol Group) and our directorate for personnel to determine the identity of the person involved,” Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, PNP spokesperson, told INQUIRER.net in a text message.
“Verification made disclosed that the vehicle which was used by the suspect is a Mitsubishi white Adventure plate number UEQ 399 and registered under the name of Grace Santos,” Mayor said.
Quoting the ACG, Mayor said the man was identified as Gaylord Santos.
However, based on their directorate for personnel, Santos had no record with the PNP.
“Manila and Las Piñas police are already directed to conduct investigation on the matter and file appropriate charges against the suspect,” Mayor said.
“We encourage the victim to come to us for the filing of charges. We thank our netizens for their vigilance,” he added. RC
