LOOK: Tourist poses with rare ‘smiling’ sloth in viral selfie

A joyous, smiling sloth is now at the center of social media adoration after a tourist who ventured on a jungle trek took an epic selfie with it.

Nikolas Huskar uploaded his priceless selfie with his “new buddy” on social media site Reddit and Russian social media network Pikabu. The Reddit post received 1.8 million views and 2,400 Reddit points.

A notable number of Reddit users were amazed by the tourist’s agile timing and luck in snapping the viral selfie.

“Smile and wave, just smile and wave. Tourist season is almost over,” one user commented.

Sloths are bashful creatures that reside inside rain forests and rarely step their foot onto the ground. According to news sites Daily Mail and Telegraph, sloths hang upside-down in Cecropia trees mostly located in the South American continent. Also, they are folivores who munch on buds, shoots and leaves and spend time snoozing or swinging on the branches.

The creatures are also named after the capital sin of sloth because of their stationary and lackadaisical lifestyle, but their idleness is a manner for them to save energy and dodge their predators. Gianna Francesca Catolico
