Marine researchers from the E/V Nautilus were fascinated with a purple and googly eyed squid reclining its teeny body on the sea floor.

Unable to contain their chuckles, the scientists filmed the adorable sea creature and uploaded the video on YouTube, which has collected over 1.3 million views since its posting on Friday.

“It looks so fake…It’s like some little kid dropped their toy, he’s awesome” remarked one female scientist. Another person blurted out in the video, “His eyes look painted on.”

Called Stubby squid, or Rossa Pacifica, the squid resembles more of a cuttlefish than a common squid found splashing in the Northern Pacific region of Japan and southern California.

According to Cephalopod page, this squid grows up to 6 centimeters long, and both male and female Stubby squids live up to a few years and pass away after mating. They feed on shrimps.

The scientists also documented other charming sea creatures such as the golden octopus seen below.  Gianna Francesca Catolico
