A netizen claimed that her Samsung S7 Edge went up in smoke inside a beauty salon in Antipolo on Friday, Sept. 23.
Make-up artist Weng Briones, 36, snapped photos of her smartphone’s bereavement on Facebook, amassing 20, 780 shares as of Monday afternoon.
In an interview via e-mail, Briones recalled that her 16-year-old daughter was tweeting using her phone when it began diffusing smoke.
“Nagpanic na kami kasi unti unti nang kumakapal yung usok natatakot kami na baka sumabog. Naglabasan lahat ng tao sa loob ng salon (We were panicking because the smoke was slowly thickening…we were afraid it would explode. Everyone evacuated the salon.),” Briones said.
Fearful salon customers began splashing water over the phone while a female staff managed to wrap the phone with a damp towel before stepping on it.
Briones said she chose to refund her damaged smartphone, which she bought last April.
“First they offered to have my phone replaced but I refused. Sabi ko gusto ko ng refund kasi kung papalitan lang din nila, ganun pa rin, andun pa rin ‘yung fear ko na maulit. They did not resist naman. Sabi lang nila na tatawag sila sa main office. Then after a few minutes ay inabot na nila sa ‘kin yung pera [na] 39,990,” she said.

According to her, Samsung management would investigate the incident.
