Netflix’s global dominance as the sole video streaming site is now being challenged by a rival service from Amazon, which has heavily hinted that Amazon Prime Video will soon be expanding to cover 200 markets worldwide come December.

Currently, Amazon Prime Video is available only in the US, UK, Germany, Austria and Japan, with India soon to follow, reports TechCrunch.

While the only show that has been confirmed to global audiences is The Grand Tour, a remake of popular British motor show Top Gear, it is highly likely that Amazon will be releasing more shows at the same time. If not, Amazon may bring more shows to the international audience in quick succession to get them up to speed with five initial countries that currently enjoy its service. A Wall Street Journal report stated that the video service is “on the verge of a massive global rollout.”

FEATURED STORIES

Australian media  have reported that audiences could now access Prime Video’s service through the web. However, apps are not yet available locally.
