The Game Awards 2016 recently concluded with “Overwatch” claiming the award for Game of the Year.

Blizzard Entertainment’s game went up against “Doom,” “Inside,” “Titanfall 2” and “Uncharted.” Game eligibility for this category required that the game came out after Nov. 24 last year and before Nov. 24 this year, reports Kotaku.

Ray Gresko of Blizzard said upon receiving the award, “While we’ve been very happy with how the game has been received, we’re also extremely proud that this game and the world that we’re building has a message and it’s a message about heroism. It’s a message about diversity. It’s a message about a bright and positive and hopeful future. And these are all things that we really believe everyone needs a little bit of right now.”

One more point of note for the evening was the granting of the Industry Icon Award to “Metal Gear Solid” creator Hideo Kojima. Last year Kojima had been banned from attending the event and accepting the award for Metal Gear Solid 5 due to contract issues with publisher Konami. The game had won Best Action/Adventure for 2015. This year, he got up the stage to receive a different but a much-deserved award as far as the fans were concerned.  Alfred Bayle
