Skype real-time translation available for mobile, landline calls

While Google works on its language translation software, Skype is extending its Star Trek-like Translator feature into mobile and landline calls.

Initially introduced in 2014, Skype has continually improved the Translator feature and made it available to all users late last year. However, it is exclusive to Skype-to-Skype calls, reports The Next Web.

To enjoy this translation feature, users will need to register for free on the Windows Insider Program, get the latest version of Skype Preview and top up some credits for calls.

The Translator currently supports nine languages including English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian.

Machine translations aren’t perfect, but Skype’s Translator will at least make it a little easier to communicate apart from hand gestures.  Alfred Bayle
