Chinese luxury smartphone powers up with massive 7000mAh battery
It’s rare for a smartphone to last an entire day under heavy use, save for a few models that come with big batteries. One Chinese manufacturer thought to break the mold by equipping one of its devices with a 7,000mAh battery pack.
Gionee, a Chinese smartphone maker, recently launched the M2017, which is a 5.7-inch smartphone equipped with a massive 7,000mAh battery unit, reports Engadget.
Article continues after this advertisementA 7,000mAh battery is a big deal for a smartphone, giving the M2017 potentially greater battery power than a tablet. Apart from the generous battery, Gionee also equipped their device with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, two rear cameras (12MP and 13MP), and an 8-megapixel front shooter.
But surprisingly, it only runs on a Snapdragon 653 processor as opposed to an 821, which is currently the highest model for Qualcomm’s mobile processors.
Either way, the Gionee M2017 will go on sale in China next year, starting January 6. Pricing starts at RMB 6,999 (around P50,000) for the 125GB version and RMB 16,999 (about P121,572) for 256GB. An international release seems unlikely and with those prices, it would seem that not many would be inclined to making a purchase. Alfred Bayle
