Cats have had a long run as the masters of the internet, topping searches even on Google. However, it appears that a new dynasty is on the rise, and it’s going to be a slobbery one at that.

A recent BBC report pointed out the growing trend of cute dogs overtaking the term “funny cats” in global searches. While the report raised some compelling but subjective points through a rather extensive research effort, it was entirely satirical in nature. Readers rode with humor and voiced out their appreciation.

But the great thing about the internet is that there were some who failed to see the rather obvious humor in the article and made their opinions known in the comments section.

On a different note, the writer’s references did legitimately trend on the internet, particularly the meme “They’re good dogs Brent” from WeRateDogs on Twitter (@dog_rates). This meme has gone viral since January of 2016.

There is also the Facebook page for a cute little dog named Boo which sports almost twice the number of likes (over 17 million) than The Official Grumpy Cat page has (over 8.7 million).

Some people say that the cats are actually the masters of their owners, not the other way around. That said, would you prefer to live under the heel of a fluffy tyrant, or a fluffy pupper who just wants to love you and eat your slippers? Alfred Bayle
