/ 01:24 AM July 01, 2017

Canon has unveiled the EOS 200D, its new entry-level DSLR aimed at beginner photographers who use their smartphone for taking snaps. It will be available from the end of July for between $549 (body only, for over P27,000) and $699 (P35,000), depending on the type of lens, putting it in the same price bracket as a high-end smartphone.

The company says that this new model, which replaces the EOS 100D, can take all types of photo. It’s described as the brand’s lightest DSLR, and includes some of the brand’s latest technological developments such as its DIGIC 7 processor and its autofocus, which is claimed to be the fastest in the world. Other features include a vari-angle screen (good for taking unusual shots), a 24.2 MP sensor, and a burst mode of up to 5 frames per second. It can also film in Full HD.

In an attempt to attract smartphone fans, Canon has included a selfie mode, with skin smoothing and background blurring options. The camera’s wireless connectivity (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC) enables photos to be easily transferred to a smartphone, and then on to social networks using the Canon Camera Connect app.
