Adequate legal counsel can be hard to come by these days, but Joshua Browder may have come up with the perfect solution.
The British entrepreneur rolled out the world’s first ever chatbot that provides free legal consultation.
According to The Verge, the AI (artificial intelligence) is adept in legal matters and has helped win cases involving over 375,000 parking tickets in a span of two years.
Following its success in New York, Seattle and even the UK, “the world’s first ever robot lawyer” is now available in 50 states in the US.
“The legal industry is more than a 200 billion dollar industry, but I am excited to make the law free,” Browder described his invention to the news outlet. “Some of the biggest law firms can’t be happy!”
Dubbed as the “DoNotPay” chatbots, the digitized lawyer can provide legal advice from two fronts.
“The first category is just filling in documents to ensure you can send something off—filling in a PDF or automating a letter,” Browder explained in a separate report from Yahoo Finance.
“The second thing is getting people to the right document and ensuring they’re eligible. Whenever there’s a thing when there’s a huge decision tree, then a document, that works particularly well,” he said.
Although the bots have helped solve multiple minor infractions in the past Browder reminded the public of its significant limitations, particularly its be unavailability in court.
“We tried to go with things that are both legally accurate and needed,” Browder explained. “Obviously, we didn’t try to do everything. The bot doesn’t help you get divorced, for instance.” Khristian Ibarrola /ra
