Apple recently unveiled its revolutionary iPhone X with the nifty “Face ID” feature, which allows users to unlock their phones by simply scanning their facial features.
Shorty after the announcement, Chinese vendors have taken to online marketplace Taobao to promote a security measure to combat possible threats for the new technology.
But instead of some sort of high-tech device, merchants are promoting “protective masks” to make sure their phones won’t be unlocked by other people while they are sleeping.
As seen in the website, multiple masks with varying designs—from balaclavas to chroma masks—are now being sold ranging from $5 to $15 (P260 to P768).

Some listings even offer luxury eye masks to fully cover the entire face.

The “protective capabilities” of the product, it turns out, are simply a clever marketing ploy, as Apple confirmed that the Face ID feature will not work when users’ eyes are closed. /ra
