Time to expand our vocabulary, as a sequel to Scrabble’s digital “ cousin” “Words with Friends” is out.

A follow-up to the 2009 app of the same name by video game developer Newtoy, the popular word-building game is back with more challenges and cool new features to boot.

Updates, as per Mashable, include a solo challenge mode, a team-based lightning round mode, strategy-improving boosts and a much-improved social dictionary with 50,000 updated words.

As the title suggests, the solo challenge mode will allow players to play against AI opponents.

But contrary to earlier modes, the AI is programmed to increase difficulty as players advance in levels.

The lighting round, meanwhile, will pit five teammates against another set of five players who will be tasked to place words in rapid succession.

A new “boost” system will also enable players to view possible tile placements before placing a turn. This allows both opponents and teammates to see what the possible word that could have been laid down.

But perhaps the most welcome addition is the 50,000 new words—which will allow users to keep up with the trendiest language in today’s society.

“Words with Friends 2” is now out on both iOS and Android, completely free of charge.  Khristian Ibarrola /ra
