PC game “Marvel Heroes Omega” has announced that service will no longer be available beyond 2017.
An official statement posted on the game’s website noted that game servers would remain active until Dec. 31, 2017. With the game’s impending closure, real money purchases will eventually be removed and gamers may play the game entirely for free.
A separate announcement will be made regarding the start of the free-to-play period.

According to a report by Kotaku, Marvel had parted ways with “Marvel Heroes’” game developer, Gazillion Entertainment.
Fans may have had foreshadowing of the game shutting down when several scheduled updates were missed, the report said. Among these were the Halloween event and “Thor” movie tie-in content. Two community managers also disappeared from the forum.
Behind the scenes, former employees of Gazillion confirmed that there had been numerous layoffs since the game launched.
“Marvel Heroes Omega” launched as a free-to-play game for PC in 2013. It featured various playable characters from the Marvel Comics universe. While players could get into the game without buying it, some heroes could be acquired using real-world money through in-game micro transactions. Alfred Bayle/JB
