A recent interview with Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that an upcoming iOS update will have a switch to turn off the system that automatically slows down an iPhone overtime.
According to ABC News, Cook clarified that the code that slowed down iPhones with old batteries had been updated to prevent unexpected restarts.
Cook added that the software feature had been released earlier and that maybe people “weren’t paying attention.” Nonetheless, the CEO once again apologized on behalf of the company.
“Maybe we weren’t clear,” he said. “We deeply apologize for anyone who thinks we have some other kind of motivation.”
The next iOS 11 developer beta may come out sometime in February. If so, a public release of the update and the throttle switch may come out by March. /ra
