“Marvel’s Spider-Man,” a Lea Seydoux part in “Death Stranding,” “Ghost of Tsushima,” and “The Last of Us Part 2” provided special focus during PlayStation’s 2018 Electronic Entertainment Expo showcase.
Marvel’s Spider-Man
Due September 2018 — and notably the only one of PlayStation’s flagship quartet to currently carry a release date — a seven-minute “Spider-Man” section shows what players can expect from the superhero tie-in.
Electro, Rhino, Scorpion, Vulture and Mr. Negative, plus one more mystery villain all feature in the game, following an incident at a maximum security prison.
Death Stranding
Movie star Léa Seydoux (“Spectre”), and TV icon Lindsay Wagner (“The Bionic Woman”) are the latest high-profile actors confirmed for “Death Stranding,” the latest mysterious project from former “Metal Gear Solid” director Hideo Kojima.
A trailer lasting over eight minutes offers glimpses of main character Sam (Norman Reedus) as he treks through a world that is by turns strange, beautiful, disjointed and oppressive.
The game is expected to arrive on PlayStation 4 though, in common with “Ghost of Tsushima” and “The Last of Us Part II,” “Death Stranding” does not yet have a publicly announced release date.
Ghost of Tsushima
PlayStation’s E3 showcase also brought with it the first look at “Ghost of Tsushima” in action.
Set in 13th century Japan, this eight-minute slice brought together travel on foot and by horseback, combat against invading forces, and sections in allied company.
The Last of Us Part II
Picking up from where 2013’s post-apocalyptic cross-country journey and its 2014 prequel “The Last of Us: Left Behind” left off, “The Last of Us Part II” showed incumbent player character Ellie as capable of both tenderness and terrifyingly potent survival skills.
Over the course of its 12-minute preview, the trailer abruptly transitions from a dance hall kiss with girlfriend Dina to scenes of grisly violence, with the accompanying strong language one would expect from desperate life-or-death encounters.
